Why I Love My Dad
When my dad talks about history, he changes into a different person. He changes from the jokey man who, when I called him to ask when he'd be home, told me he was "driving north on a four-lane paved road", to someone who knows anything and everything. You can ask him about Hitler, Gandhi, Churchill, or Mandela, and he'll provide you with a mini-biography. His favorite person to talk about though? Mark Twain. When you ask him about Twain, his voice gets deep and powerful and seems to take on the tone of men yelling to each other along the Mississippi River, of young men evading their Aunt Pollys, of an old man, writing everything he knows. He stares off into the distance, and you know he's seeing Twain giving a speech or watching him write. He can tell you anything. My dad loves history. The facts, the people, the events.
My father is also an amazing storyteller. He can tell you about Gandhi and make it seem like a fairytale. Or not, depending on the tolerance of the listener.
After talking to him for about an hour tonight, I am left with only one question: Why is he a lawyer and not a history professor?

Dear Maggie-
Dear Maggie-
Hi, sweet kitty! How are you doing, up in heaven? We miss you a lot, and it's only been a day and a half. Have you met Ranger again? Did you rub noses and remember all the fun you had as little kittens, peeing on itty-widdle baby-waby Beatlechick24's possessions? Or did you reminisce about that one year you went to Maine for Christmas? How were his new owners? Did they treat him well?
Please don't find new owners. We miss you too much for you to do that. Or, no. I give you permission to live with Lady Linda McCartney, but no one else.
I'm going to be writing letters to you now almost daily. You can't read my diary, so this is how I'll keep in touch with you.
I love you. Stick with Ranger and I'll see you in, oh, I don't know, 87-ish years? That's a long time, but it'll be okay. You have new friends already, I'll bet.
I love you. A lot.
Love,
"Gertrude".

Ode to the Best Cat in the World: In Memory
Maggie Mae-
I love you. You are the best, furriest, fluffiest cat in the world. You smell sooooo good. You are always there to comfort me. Broken wrist? To your furry little face I scurried. Same with mean boys, bad grades, or family spats. And now, the time has come for you to leave us. You've been around 15 and a half years, and now you're elderly. Peeing on your parent's bed is never a good sign, I guess.
I love you. You've always been there for me, and you've never let me down. I can't believe how sad I am right now. It's like a curtain is over my head, a veil is blocking my eyes and ears and everything I see and hear is distorted. I almost can't breathe for grief. There's only so much screaming and sobbing one girl can do.
It's ironic, but this is happening four days after my birthday. It sucks. It really does.
I love you, will always love you, and I will remember you. One day, I'll tell my kids about the best cat in the world, Maggie Mae. And hey, if I'm lucky, I might even see you again. Whenever I look at a stuffed Tigger, I'll think of you, my furry little baby, older sister, confidant, best friend.
I love you.

Ribco
Hey. I hate Ribco, in case you haven't realized this yet. If you don't know who Ribco is, he's the alter ego of my friend Zombieman13. Read his blog at www.zombieman13.blogspot.com. Yeah. Go read it. You'll know why I hate him.

2012
Do you believe in 2012? I do. I think that the producers of the movie "2012" saw the future and decided to tell us unsuspecting humans. So when we die, I hope I've met Paul McCartney, seen The Who live, and gotten a book published.
Wouldn't you love to meet Paul McCartney?? I'd be all, "OMG YOU'RE PAUL MCCARTNEY!" I'd talk to him so much that he'd get annoyed, slap me across the face, give me a "boot to the head" (thanks John Cleese!) and strut away. Then I'd realize that he was old, get over him, and GO STALK ROGER DALTREY!
I'd like to shout a "WOOT WOOT!!!" to Monty Python. John Cleese, Michael Palin, Terry Jones, Terry Gilliam, Eric Idle, and Graham Chapman. If you've never seen any of their stuff, go onto Youtube and search "Monty Python self defense from fruit", "Monty Python it's the mind", "Monty Python fish slapping dance", "Monty Python confuse a cat", "Monty Python ministry of silly walks", or just plain ole' "Monty Python", because everything they do is pure genius.

Zombies vs. Unicorns
My friend Alex was just telling me about a book she's reading, and once I get my hands on it, I think it'll be my favorite book EVER!!!! It's about zombies and unicorns and unicorns, and they all love The Beatles and The Who! I've read books where they talk about The Beatles- I mean, who hasn't?- but never, not once have I heard someone in a book talk about The Who. What's the matter with people?!?! John Entwistle, Keith Moon, Pete Townshend, and Roger Daltrey deserve recognition!!! They are just as amazing as The Beatles! I can see why parents would want their kids listening to "Eleanor Rigby" over "You Better You Bet", but for kids over, like, 10, The Who is fantastic!!!!!! But I was talking about "Zombies vs. Unicorns". Sorry. Anyway, one of the characters started to sing "Behind Blue Eyes" apparently, so I HAVE to borrow it from Alex.
I woke up this morning in a foul mood. But on the way to school, I listened to a song on my iPod that said, "La la how their life goes on", and another one that said, "If I smile tell me some bad news before I laugh and act like a fool." I decided to go with the first song.
PS- If anyone knows what songs those lyrics are from, comment on this post. If you're right, you'll get the song of knowing that you are enlightened in the ways of SUPER FABTABULOUS MUSIC!
Shanti shanti.
