Pizza: Delicious yet Fattening Treat, or Vegetable?

We've all heard from our parents that pizza may taste yummy, but it's not healthy and we shouldn't eat it that often. However, the U.S. Congress disagrees! Recently, Congress has decided to tell America that pizza is a vegetable and should be served in more schools as a healthier lunch option than French fries.

I don't know about anyone else, but I find this statement absolutely disgusting and I frankly can't believe that America, who was so concerned a year ago with lowering the percentage of childhood obesity, would now claim pizza, a dish made with globs and globs of melted, gooey cheese, tomato sauce, and gallons of oil and grease, a vegetable!

The serving size for a typical cheese pizza is two slices, due to the fact that one slice can have 300-445 calories, 16 grams of fat, and 55 carbs.

Have you ever pressed a napkin to a fresh slice of pizza? If you haven't, try it next time you go out to eat or order in pizza. The amount of grease that soaks through your napkin is horrendous, and the US wants to pass this off as a healthy lunch option?

That's just horrid, America. Have you totally been blindsided by McDonald's? Come on. Remember health class in middle school, and what happens to your body after eating too much pizza? That's sick.

Wake up, America!

  1. If it had tomato sauce, it would be slightly less of a problem. (But still blatantly wrong.) The "tomato paste" used in the industrial/cafeteria pizza is less than 31% tomato. Sack lunches sound even more appealing now, don't they?

  3. I would totally agree if you weren't talking about one of my favourite foods. Besides potatoes. Which are DEFINITELY vegetables... ^^
